Gary Lynn Buharp, 70, of Winchester, Virginia, died suddenly, Monday, May 4, 2015, at Winchester Medical Center.
Mr. Buharp was born in 1944, in Williamsport, Maryland. He was the son of the late Nathanial S. and Blanch Buharp. Mr. Buharp was a US Army Veteran, having served 22 years from 1960 to 1982. He spent his Army career in the Joint Communications Support Element. During his time in the service, he earned a Bachelor’s degree in History. He was awarded the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Heidelberg, Germany 1980, the Meritorious Service Medal, Ft Gordon, GA 1982, and the Bronze Star Medal, Vietnam, 1968. He retired as a Master Sergeant (E-8). He later worked for the US Postal Service and then as a reservist with FEMA for 15 years.
Mr. Burharp was predeceased by his wife of 30 years, Edith M. Whitney. He is survived by his fiancée, LaRue A. Kump; his brother, Nathanial S. Buharp, Jr. (Jane) of Niceville, Florida; his daughters, Carol Ward and Patricia W. Osborn(Bruce) all of Tampa, Florida; granddaughters, Cassandra Larson of Tampa, Florida and Christine Osborn-Stehley (Dennis) and great-grandson, Augustine J. Stehley of Mons, Belgium.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, prior to the service from 2:00-3:00 PM at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel.
A memorial service with Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel, will be held on Thursday, June 25, 3:00 PM Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel.
